Keratin Treatment

Possibly one of the most beautiful things in the world is that we’re all so different. Each and every person is a unique specimen. That means that we each have our own features, characters and traits that makes you… well, you.

That said, this applies to your hair type as well. And if you’re naturally born with Kardashian-esque locks well then we applaud you. Not to mention incredibly envious, but that’s a different story. The truth of the matter is that silky smooth, tamable hair is but a distant dream for many. Unattainable in most cases and downright impossible to achieve in others.

Until now. Allow us to introduce you to ‘Keratin’ treatment, the hair treatment that has been taking over the world by storm. Some of you may know it inside out, others a little on the surface and still some others are absolutely clueless about it. We hope to clear it out for you, as comprehensively as we can. So if you’ve been contemplating on getting a keratin treatment done at some point, then this might be useful for you.

First of all, it’s important to understand what the word keratin means. In short, keratin is a substance that is naturally found in your hair, skin and nails. It’s what keeps them strong, healthy, shiny, and easy to maintain. However, due to external causes such as environmental factors, chemical treatments and other unhealthy influences, you are stripped off this keratin. This leaves your hair dull, lifeless, brittle and incredibly dry.

This is the point at which people often rush to buy as many conditioning products as they possibly can get their hands on. Problem is, there’s no knowing how effective these can be, you often have to restock which costs exorbitant amounts of money down the line, and there are so many different options that can be utterly confusing.

Enter keratin. Now that you know what keratin’s all about, you’ll better understand the treatment. Keratin treatments aim to replenish your starved locks with the necessary proteins. It soaks deeply into your damaged hair, through the pores all along the strand from the root to the tip. It’s a truly invigorating, reviving action that provides your hair with the energy it needs.

Needless to say, this means that your hair will be back to its shiny, bouncy self and best of all, you’ll be able to maintain this look for a long time to come. There’s strength and durability from the inside out, so it not only looks good from the outside, but also feels good from within. Keratin treatments also protect your hair from harmful sun rays, and acts as a shield of sorts from the elements.

These treatments are typically done with specific keratin hair products, and at Blo Our Beauty we only use the best. Our treatments can last anywhere between 4-6 months, which is the general lifespan of a well-done keratin treatment. Our experienced, qualified and enthusiastic staff are on hand to answer any and all queries you might have, so get in touch if you need to clear them out.

Q. What Is Keratin?

A. Before you try to understand what the treatment is all about, you have to first know what ‘keratin’ means. Simply put, keratin is a substance, or to be more precise a protein, that is found naturally in our hair, skin and nails. Where keratin’s role on hair is concerned, it is known to function as a protective shield externally, whilst offering strength and durability from the inside. For all its positivity however, it is quite delicate and easily depleted when subject to damage. Nowadays, keratin is commonly lost because of our modern day lifestyles which exposes our hair to pollution, chemical effects and environmental factors.

Q. How Does Keratin Help?

A. Think of keratin as a supplement of sorts. It helps nourish your hair so its condition improves. It penetrates deep into the layers of each hair strand, so it replenishes it from within. Keratin is a popular hair treatment, because it helps your hair heal wholly, since it is not solely focused on lustrous locks that only look so from the outside. It is particularly useful for those who may have chemically damaged their hair through straightening, bonding, tinting and more. If you are someone who has relied on styling appliances and products for a long time, then chances are your hair is completely stripped of keratin. No need to worry though, since you can now bring back vitality, shine, elasticity and vibrancy to your hair with a healthy dose of keratin.

Q. What Does The Treatment Involve?

A. Keratin treatments are typically done with the help of products that are specifically designed for the purpose. They include keratin in their formulations, and as one of the leading hair salons in dubai, at Blo Out Beauty we only use products that feature keratin closest to the real thing. It allows us to offer the best possible keratin services to our clients, without causing any further damage to already brittle hair. We are able to replenish hair with keratin, where it seeps into the necessary areas, working on each strand from the inside out. You will notice a marked difference, as you will see your hair become healthier, stronger and so much easier to style. If you suffer from frizzy hair, consider this your one-stop solution.

Q. Is It Only For Shine, Or Does It Protect?

A. This is a question that more than one customer has thrown at us. And our answer is no, it is not only for beauty or shine. Keratin treatments do indeed protect your hair, repelling harmful UV rays and other harmful factors. Remember that for hair to shine on the outside, it needs to be robust on the inside.

Q. How Long Can I Expect It To Last?

A. It really depends on where you go. If you end up at some of the less reliable hair salons in dubai, chances are it will not last beyond a few days. However, when done right, a keratin treatment should last anywhere between 4-6 months. This does also depend on how the client takes care of their hair post treatment though. However, our stylists at Blo Out Beauty are on hand to guide you through a few changes you will need to implement into your routine, one of which includes, but is not limited to sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.

Q. Who Is Suitable For The Treatment?

A. Unless you have an intrusive scalp condition such as psoriasis for instance, are pregnant or nursing or suffer from respiratory issues such as asthma or wheezing, anyone qualifies for keratin treatment. If you do have such a condition and still want to go in for a keratin treatment, you are advised to seek professional guidance from your dermatologist. We put our client’s health and well-being at the top of our priorities when it comes to hair salons, so if you are not allowed to, then we will not go ahead. Other than that, anyone with damaged hair is welcome to take advantage of this treatment. If you are uncertain of your suitability, just speak to us and we will let you know.

Q. What Is The Process Like?

A. Keratin treatments can take anywhere between 1.5-2.5 hours, depending on each person’s hair length and of course texture. The more damaged your hair is, the longer it will take.
The treatment begins with prepping the hair first. It is thoroughly washed with a clarifying shampoo ensuring all dirt and residue is washed off. This also allows the hair cuticle to open up, which is important when applying the keratin. After washing, your hair will be dried partially, and then the keratin lotion is applied. You will then have to wait a while for the keratin to absorb into the hair. Once sufficient time has passed, your hair will be dried again. Then, a flat iron is used to seal the keratin into the hair.

Q. What Should I Keep In Mind Post-Treatment?

A. Much like straightening or relaxing, after your keratin treatment, you need to exercise utmost care for the next 72 hours. You should not wash or style your hair, use bands, clips, pins or any other kind of hair accessory as your hair will kink and bend out of shape. You must keep your hair away from water for 3 days, at the end of which you can wash it out, with specific shampoo and conditioner.

Q. What Do I Do If It Does Get Wet?

A. If something happens and your hair does get wet say by getting caught in the rain, then you need to make sure you get to a blow-dryer and iron as soon as possible. Dry your hair, and then use the iron to restore it. If however you end up drenched, this might not help.

Q. Are Keratin Treatments The Same As Straightening Or Relaxing?

A. Certainly not. Keratin is purely a restorative treatment that helps revive your hair, not just change up your look. Straightening and relaxing involves re-arranging your hair’s internal bonds so when re-growth happens, as we all know it looks terrible. In this case, the straightening is natural so there is no interference with the existing setup.
